In a recent interview with the Stoneham Coalition, Steve Kent, the Executive Director of Insight Recovery Treatment Center, shared his personal journey and the mission behind the center. Steve grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts, leading an outwardly successful life as a student and athlete. However, he struggled internally with substance abuse, which escalated during his college years. Despite his achievements, he turned to alcohol and drugs as a way to escape feelings of anxiety and depression. Throughout his twenties, Steve cycled in and out of treatment centers, attempting to find recovery.
It wasn’t until he fully embraced the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous that he experienced a profound change. This process gave him a renewed sense of purpose, leading him to focus on helping others struggling with addiction. This passion for service eventually culminated in the opening of Insight Recovery Treatment Center, located in Winchester, Massachusetts.
At Insight Recovery, the center offers a variety of programs, including both day and night treatments, to accommodate different schedules and needs. With a mix of 12-step facilitation, evidence-based therapies, and mental health support for co-occurring disorders, the center aims to provide comprehensive care for those seeking recovery from licensed clinicians. Steve emphasized the importance of supporting individuals not only with structured treatments but also through community involvement, helping to destigmatize addiction.
Steve remains committed to outreach, working closely with local organizations and events like Recovery Fest in Stoneham, which brings together community members to raise awareness and offer resources for recovery. His story of perseverance and dedication to helping others stands as an inspiration to many, underscoring the belief that recovery is possible with the right support and treatment.
