Meet the Team: Richard Trainor, LMHC, Clinical Director at Insight Recovery Treatment Center
At Insight Recovery Treatment Center, weโre fortunate to have a team of professionals who bring deep personal experience and dedication to their work in addiction recovery. Today, we’re excited to introduce Richard Trainor, LMHC, our Clinical Director. Richโs journey in recovery, combined with his professional expertise, makes him a powerful advocate and guide for our clients.
Background and Motivation of Richard Trainor
Richโs path toward working in addiction recovery began with his own journey. In the early weeks of his recovery, he attended a 28-day, 12-step retreat where he was inspired by the staffโs commitment to helping others. Their passion was unmistakableโthey shared personal stories and offered guidance that resonated with Rich.
This experience planted the seed for his career. In his second year of recovery, Rich was given the opportunity to take on a management role at a 12-step sober living home, a position he accepted with gratitude. Over the last eight years, he has held numerous roles in both clinical and non-clinical recovery settings. For Rich, recovery is an evolving journeyโโStagnation is not an option for me,โ he says, emphasizing that his personal experiences fuel his dedication to helping others on their own paths.
Connection to Insight Recoveryโs Mission
At Insight Recovery, Rich feels aligned with the centerโs mission to tailor treatment to each clientโs unique needs. โWe do not believe there is a โone-size-fits-allโ approach to recovery,โ he explains. Instead, Rich and the team work to introduce clients to a range of recovery practices that span spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical areas.
Rich integrates practices he found essential in his own journeyโmindfulness, meditation, prayer, and contemplationโinto the programs at Insight. These practices, he believes, are crucial for spiritual growth, which, in turn, supports emotional, mental, and physical well-being. At Insight, Rich strives to give clients similar opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their path to recovery.
Approach and Philosophy
Richโs approach to working with clients is rooted in understanding their personal goals. โI donโt make assumptions about what clients should strive for,โ he explains. Instead, he works collaboratively with them to set meaningful goals and tailor treatment plans accordingly. This client-centered approach helps individuals feel more motivated and committed to their recovery journey.
Unique Contributions to Insight Recovery
Rich brings a unique blend of clinical and spiritual insights to the Insight Recovery team. His personal experience in a 12-step, spiritually based recovery program, combined with his clinical background, has shaped his philosophy. Drawing inspiration from Carl Jungโwhose work influenced the creation of the 12-step programโRich believes in blending clinical and spiritual principles to provide holistic support for clients. This approach, he explains, allows clients to benefit from both medical and spiritual guidance, which he has seen to be highly effective.
Looking Ahead
Looking to the future, Rich is excited about further integrating spiritual approaches with behavioral, emotional, and physical recovery practices at Insight. โThere are myriad spiritual approaches that leave the door wide open for entry,โ he says, explaining that by exploring different spiritual paths, clients can find a recovery approach that feels right for them. Rich is committed to helping clients at Insight find their unique path to lasting recovery and fulfillment.
Rich Trainorโs dedication, personal experience, and holistic approach make him an invaluable asset to Insight Recovery Treatment Center. Through his leadership, we continue to provide compassionate, individualized care that respects each clientโs unique journey.
