Meet the Team: Steve Kent, Executive Director & Co-Founder of Insight Recovery Treatment Center

Feb 16, 2026 | Insight Recovery

At Insight Recovery Treatment Center, our work is built on more than clinical expertise — it’s built on real connection, compassion, and a belief that people can change. We understand that recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and that meaningful healing happens when individuals feel seen, supported, and respected as whole people — not just patients.

This philosophy aligns closely with evidence-informed approaches to addiction recovery that emphasize connection, community, and individualized care, which are widely recognized as essential components of long-term recovery by organizations like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). At Insight, these values aren’t just part of a treatment model — they’re woven into the culture of our team and the way we show up for every client who walks through our doors.

One of the strongest examples of that mission in action is Steve Kent, Insight Recovery’s Executive Director and Co-Founder. Steve’s leadership is grounded in lived experience, personal growth, and a genuine commitment to helping others build lasting recovery. His perspective helps bridge the clinical and human sides of treatment, ensuring compassion, dignity, and connection remain central to the recovery process.

For Steve, recovery isn’t just something you “complete.” It’s something you live — day by day — and something you strengthen by supporting others along the way. That belief shapes how he leads, how he connects with clients, and how Insight Recovery Treatment Center continues to grow as a place where people feel safe doing the hard work of change.

A Personal Journey That Became a Purpose

Steve’s passion for helping people struggling with addiction began with his own recovery journey. As someone in recovery himself, he understands the complexity of addiction in a way that goes beyond training or theory — because he has lived it.

“I am a person in recovery, and I only stayed well by helping others,” Steve shares. “It was the missing piece that transformed my life.”

That experience became a turning point. Steve realized that service wasn’t just something that felt meaningful — it was essential. Helping others became the foundation of his own wellness and personal transformation.

Over time, that passion grew into a calling. Steve made the decision to change careers and dedicate his life to creating spaces where people could heal, rebuild, and rediscover who they are outside of addiction.

“I changed careers and opened businesses where I can dedicate my life to helping others.”

How Insight Recovery’s Mission Resonates With Him

Insight Recovery Treatment Center’s mission is centered around compassion, integrity, and individualized support — and those values align deeply with Steve’s personal philosophy.

For Steve, the idea that everyone is welcome is not just a tagline. It’s a moral standard he works hard to instill across the entire team and treatment environment.

“I try to instill a moral standard that everyone is welcome and we’ll do what we can to help clients,” he explains.

That mindset is reflected not only in Insight Recovery’s culture, but also in Steve’s day-to-day leadership. He believes that when clients feel respected and supported — especially during the most vulnerable moments of their lives — they’re more likely to engage in treatment and build a stronger foundation for long-term recovery.

Steve also brings that mission to life in personal ways. He makes it a priority to connect directly with clients whenever possible, checking in and offering support.

“I make it a point to check in with all clients and offer support any way I can.”

A Compassionate and Realistic Approach to Recovery

Steve’s approach to helping clients is rooted in compassion, understanding, and realism. He knows that recovery doesn’t happen in a vacuum — people are often balancing responsibilities, relationships, and real-life pressures while trying to stay sober and rebuild stability.

“My approach is to be compassionate and understanding,” Steve says. “I know firsthand how difficult it is to balance work, family, recovery, and all-around life.”

This understanding is one of the things clients often feel immediately. Steve recognizes that addiction affects every part of a person’s life — and that healing involves more than just “stopping.” It involves learning how to live again with healthier tools, better support systems, and a renewed sense of identity.

His experience gives him insight into where people have been — emotionally, mentally, and practically — and he uses that to meet clients where they are.

“I have a lot of experience around where people have been, and I used that to offer insight.”

What He Brings to the Team — and Why It Matters

When asked what he feels he brings to Insight Recovery that’s unique, Steve keeps it simple — and sincere.

“I feel I bring good intentions and care about the individual for them to get well.”

That authenticity shapes the culture of Insight Recovery in a meaningful way. Steve leads with heart. He values human connection and believes that clients respond best when they feel genuinely cared for, not judged or treated like a number.

That same standard extends to the team. Steve believes that a strong treatment center is built by strong people — staff members who feel supported, aligned, and committed to growth.

His leadership style helps create an environment where the team can show up as their best selves, which ultimately strengthens the quality of care clients receive.

Looking Ahead: Growth, Leadership, and the Future of Recovery

Steve’s excitement for the future is rooted in growth — both personal and professional. He’s passionate about continuing to evolve as a leader and a person in recovery, and he’s equally invested in helping the Insight Recovery team grow.

“I get excited for personal growth along with growing our staff to be the best versions of themselves.”

For Steve, that growth isn’t just about expanding a program — it’s about strengthening the foundation of care. As Insight Recovery continues to move forward, he remains focused on building a team culture rooted in compassion, accountability, and excellence.

A Message From Steve’s Story

Steve’s story is a reminder of what recovery can look like: transformation, purpose, and a life built on service. His leadership reflects Insight Recovery’s commitment to treating people with dignity and supporting long-term healing — not just short-term change.

At Insight Recovery Treatment Center, clients aren’t just treated — they’re supported, encouraged, and reminded that they are capable of building something new.

And for Steve Kent, that mission isn’t just professional.

It’s personal.
