Insight Recovery: A Beacon of Hope in Winchester. At Insight Recovery Treatment Center, the mission is clear: to provide compassionate care, support, and resources to those facing the challenges of addiction. Located at 7 McKay Avenue in Winchester, this center has quickly become a vital resource for the community since its opening in August. Co-founders Steven Kent, Jon Baer, and Rich Trainor have brought their personal experiences and passion for recovery into creating a space where individuals can find hope and healing.
A Vision Rooted in Community
Steven Kent, who grew up in the area, shared the team’s decision to establish the center in Winchester:
“There weren’t a lot of treatment centers in this area. I grew up in this area and saw a lot of people have trouble in their lives. That’s why I wanted to be in the area.”
Insight Recovery is not just another facility—it’s a community-focused initiative. The team collaborates with coalitions across Winchester, Woburn, Medford, Arlington, and Stoneham to ensure individuals in need are aware of the help available.
Winchester’s welcoming environment has also been key to the center’s success. Local organizations, including the Fire Department and Police Department, have supported Insight Recovery’s mission.
Tailored Programs for Recovery
Under the guidance of Rich Trainor, the Clinical Director, the center offers customized treatment plans designed to meet individual needs. Clients undergo assessments to determine the most appropriate program, whether intensive outpatient therapy or day treatment. These services are complemented by one-on-one therapy, group sessions, and access to psychiatric care when needed.
The team’s future goals include integrating family therapy and support groups to create a holistic approach to recovery.
Addressing the Growing Need
Jon Baer emphasized the urgency of tackling addiction in the current climate:
“Overdoses are worse, a real epidemic—and COVID made it 10 times worse. There’s more of a need than ever for treatment.”
While awareness of addiction has grown, the stigma surrounding treatment persists, and resources remain limited. The team is actively working to address these gaps, with plans to expand their services to include mental health treatment.
A Personal Passion
All three founders bring firsthand experience with addiction and recovery, which fuels their dedication to helping others. As Kent shared:
“We have all gone through this and come out the other side. It’s a passion! We are here to help!”
Insight Recovery operates seven days a week, with both daytime and evening hours, and offers an after-hours phone line for those in need. The center strives to be a reliable point of contact and resource for individuals seeking help and guidance.
Looking Ahead
The team’s long-term vision includes growth beyond Winchester, with satellite locations to bring their mission to even more communities. Their commitment to breaking the stigma around addiction and providing accessible, high-quality care is unwavering.
